Summer is Here!
The end of the year is just around the corner and soon the school will close for summer holidays. Here are a few fun ideas to keep your young ones occupied.

Go on a Picnic
You don’t have to go to a distant location for a picnic, you can have one in your own garden. Let your kids help you to pack the basket with anything you can think of in the fridge.

Go Camping
Build a tent indoors or outdoors with blankets and sheets or have your picnic under the table. As soon as your tent is up, everyone can climb inside and pretend they are in a park.

Do a Treasure Hunt
Make a treasure map out of brown paper with clues to find some treasure you have hidden somewhere in the house or garden. Your treasures can be a small packet of dried fruit or a sweetie, they don’t have to be large expensive items.

Make a Box Robot
You can create an amazing robot with a few old boxes, some glitter, glue and a bit of paint. Let your imagination go wild.

Make your Own Puppets
Create your very own sock puppet friend by sticking wool on the top of an old sock and using a permanent marker to draw eyes, a nose and a mouth.

Go for a Nature Walk
Go on nature walks and gather a few special things. On the beach, you can pick up some shells and stones to later make a shell or shell artworks. In the forest, collect leaves, plants or trees. At night, do a bit of star gazing.

Grow Your Own Veggies
Get the kids to each choose a few seeds or small veggie plants for their own patch of land. They will have loads of fun watering and planting them and watching them grow!

Most of all just enjoy each other’s company and have tons of fun!

It’s Recipe Time Again:

Christmas Cookies
Everybody loves Christmas cookies during the holidays. They are quick and easy to make and the kids will love decorating them. Get the whole family involved and bake for all the special people in your lives.
Ingredients
1 c. unsalted butter (no substitutions), at room temperature
1/2 c. granulated sugar
1 large egg
1 tbsp. vanilla extract
3 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. kosher salt
Assorted coloured granulated sugars for decorating
Ornamental Frosting
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350ºF. In large bowl, with mixer at low speed, beat butter and sugar until blended.
Increase speed to high, beat until light and creamy. At low speed, beat in egg and vanilla. Beat in flour, baking powder, and salt just until blended.
Divide dough into 4 equal pieces. Wrap each piece with plastic wrap and refrigerate until firm enough to roll, about 1 hour.
On lightly floured surface, with floured rolling pin, roll 1 piece of dough 1/8 inch thick. With floured 2- to 3-inch assorted cookie cutters, cut dough into as many cookies as possible, wrap and refrigerate trimmings.
Place cookies, 1 inch apart, on large ungreased cookie sheet, sprinkle cookies with coloured sugar now if you like, or frost with Ornamental Frosting after baking.
Bake cookies 10 to 12 minutes, until lightly browned. Transfer cookies to wire rack to cool.
If you like, brush coloured sugar remaining on cookie sheets onto piece of waxed paper to use again. Repeat with remaining dough and trimmings.
When cookies are cool, prepare Ornamental Frosting if you like, use to decorate cookies as desired.
Sprinkle coloured sugars as desired on frosting before it dries. Allow frosting to dry completely, about 1 hour.
Store cookies in tightly covered container up to 2 weeks.
